Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At Mill Hill Primary Academy, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their full potential. We are committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing environment where all pupils are valued, supported and encouraged to succeed.
It is estimated that around 20% of children will experience a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND) at some point during their education. We recognise that every child is unique, and we work closely with families to identify and meet individual needs as early as possible.
Early Identification and Support
We carefully monitor every child’s progress, attainment and wellbeing to ensure that any additional needs are identified at the earliest opportunity. Early identification allows us to provide timely support, helping children to overcome barriers to learning and make the best possible progress.
Our aim is to ensure that every pupil has access to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that is appropriately adapted to meet their individual needs. High-quality teaching is at the heart of our SEND provision, with additional support, targeted interventions and personalised strategies provided where appropriate.
Working Together
Parents and carers play a vital role in their child’s education, and we believe that strong partnerships between home and school lead to the best outcomes for children.
If a child is identified as having SEND, they will be placed on the school’s SEND Register following discussion with parents or carers. Together, we will agree appropriate support, review progress regularly and celebrate achievements along the way.
Where appropriate, we work collaboratively with a range of external professionals and agencies, including:
- Educational Psychologists
- Learning Support Services
- Speech and Language Therapists
- Occupational Therapists
- Health professionals
- The Local Authority SEND Team
- Early Years Forum
This partnership approach ensures that children receive the specialist support they need both in school and beyond.
Our SEND Team
Our SEND provision is led by Mrs Hulme, our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), who works closely with teachers, support staff, families and external professionals to coordinate support and ensure that every child receives the provision they need to thrive.
Supporting this work is Mrs Salih, our Assistant SENCO, who helps to coordinate provision, monitor progress and work alongside staff and families to ensure children receive the right support at the right time.
Our dedicated WISH (Welfare, Inclusion, SEND Hub) Team plays a key role in supporting pupils and their families. The team delivers targeted interventions, coordinates Early Help support where appropriate, and provides additional pastoral and practical support to help children overcome barriers to learning, wellbeing and attendance. By working closely with families and external agencies, the WISH Team ensures that every child receives the care and support they need to flourish.
Inclusion for All
We are proud to be an inclusive school where every child is encouraged to participate fully in school life. We strive to remove barriers to learning and ensure that pupils with SEND are able to enjoy the same opportunities as their peers, both inside and outside the classroom.
We celebrate every child’s strengths, recognise their individual achievements and nurture the confidence, resilience and independence they need to become successful, lifelong learners.
