School Uniform

At Mill Hill Primary Academy, we believe that wearing a school uniform helps to create a sense of belonging and pride in our school community. We ask that all pupils wear the correct uniform every day and that all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Main School Uniform

  • Year 6 only: School blazer.
  • Purple Mill Hill jumper or cardigan.
  • White school shirt (no polo shirts).
    • Nursery and Reception: Short-sleeved shirts.
    • Years 1–6: Long or short-sleeved shirts.
  • Mill Hill school tie (clip-on or elasticated).
  • Plain black or grey school trousers, skirt or pinafore dress (leggings are not permitted).
  • Plain black or grey socks or tights.
  • During the summer term, pupils may wear a purple gingham dress with white socks or plain black or grey tailored shorts.

Footwear

Children should wear plain black school shoes. Plain black trainers may also be worn, provided they are entirely black with no coloured logos, soles or decorative features. This includes trainer styles such as black Nike Air Force 1s, provided they are completely black and suitable for everyday school wear.

Plain black leather or patent ankle boots (Chelsea boot style) may also be worn. Fashion boots, including Doc Marten-style boots, are not suitable.

Footwear should be practical, safe and appropriate for all aspects of the school day, including outdoor play. Fashion trainers that are brightly coloured, heavily branded or designed primarily for sport are not suitable.

If your child requires alternative footwear for medical reasons, please provide supporting medical information to the Academy.

PE Kit (Reception – Year 6)

Please ensure all PE clothing is clearly labelled.

  • Purple Mill Hill PE polo shirt.
  • Plain black jogging bottoms, shorts or leggings (no logos).
  • Plain black or purple sweatshirt or tracksuit top (no logos), or the Mill Hill PE jumper.
  • Trainers (pumps are not recommended).

The Mill Hill fleece forms part of the PE kit. It may be worn as an outdoor coat but should not replace the school jumper or cardigan as part of the daily uniform.

Jewellery

  • One plain gold or silver stud may be worn in each ear.
  • Earrings must be worn in the lower earlobe and must be removed for PE and swimming.
  • No other visible piercings are permitted.

Hair and Appearance

To promote a smart and consistent appearance, we ask that:

  • Hairstyles are neat, practical and suitable for school.
  • Extreme hairstyles, shaved patterns, steps, lines, elaborate braiding or non-natural hair colours are not permitted (unless agreed by the Principal for exceptional circumstances or a specific Academy event).
  • Long hair should be tied back using a plain hair bobble.
  • Make-up is not permitted.
  • Nail varnish, gel polish and acrylic nails are not permitted, and nails should be kept short.
