Year 6

Meet the Team

6C: Mrs Prime and Mrs Podmore

6P: Mr Paxton and Mrs Hughes

Hello! I’m Mrs Prime – one of the year 6 teachers. I’ve been working at Mill Hill since I qualified as a teacher and absolutely love teaching in year 6. It is such an exciting year for the children, where they show determination, resilience and simply flourish into well-rounded young people – just in time for high school! I also lead Maths at the academy and encourage the children to be just as enthusiastic about Maths as me! When I’m not at school, I love spending time with my family.  I have a daughter, named Harlow and in my spare time I love to play netball. I am very lucky to be joined in Year 6 by Mrs Podmore and she is the teaching assistant in 6C. She has been working at Mill Hill for 30+ years, so she has taught many of the parents whose children now come to the school. She has two sons and three grandchildren that keep her busy at the weekends. When she gets a bit of down time, she loves walking and reading.

Hi, I am Mr Paxton and I have worked at Mill Hill for over 3 years. Prior to this, I taught in Blackpool for 17 years. Throughout my time teaching I have mainly been in Year 5 and 6 so when Mrs Mills asked me to be a member of the Year 6 teaching staff, I was delighted. I love working with the children in their final year of primary school as that is when you see them blossoming into independent young people who are ready for their next step in life. As well as being a Year 6 teacher, I have the privilege of being the Upper Key Stage 2 phase leader and the subject leader for Spanish and Religious Education. In my spare time, I have a love of reading, foreign travel, theme parks, rollercoasters and going for long walks with my adorable dog Ralphie. Joining me in my classroom is Mrs Hughes and she loves to read. Her favourite book is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. She also enjoys spending precious time with her family. She always enjoy a sing and a dance and brings that to the classroom wherever possible; whether it be during a class performance, Spanish or SPaG lesson. Her main focus is ensuring all children achieve their best and are always happy when they are at school.

This year, our PE day is on Friday. Please make sure appropriate PE kit is in school that day. This includes the purple Mill Hill t-shirt. It is important the children take part in the sessions. Please see our uniform policy for more details. https://clt.millhill.coop/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Academy-Uniform-September-2023.pdf

In Summer term, we go swimming every Tuesday, so please ensure they have their full kit including a swimming cap.

In year 6, we strive to develop the children’s independence, resilience and ownership for their learning in preparation for their next chapter in their school life at high school.
