Year 5

Meet the Team

5R – Miss Russell and Miss Gidman

5O – Mr Owen and Mrs Underhill

Hi I am Miss Russell. I began my career at Mill Hill in 2020 and have had the pleasure of working in both key stages. I love working with the Year 5 children and getting them prepared for year 6. In my spare time, I love to watch different programmes on the TV.  In class with me is Miss Gidman, who began at Mill Hill a couple of years ago. She has worked in Key stage 2 during that time. In her spare time, she is in a band, so music is a passion of hers.

Hi I am Mr Owen, I completed my teacher training at Mill Hill before accepting my first teaching post at another school. I couldn’t stay away for long though and I was back in 2017. In my spare time, I coach American Football for a men’s team based in Widnes. With me is Mrs Underhill, who has worked at the school for 18 years. It holds a special place in her heart. She has worked in Early years and key stage 2 so has been able to see our children’s starting points and the expectations they need to achieve in upper key stage 2. She enjoys escaping to her caravan in Wales at weekends and is looking forward to meeting her new grandchild.

This year, our PE day is on Thursday. Please make sure appropriate PE kit is in school that day. This includes the purple Mill Hill t-shirt. It is important the children take part in the sessions. In Spring term, we go swimming every Tuesday, so please ensure they have their full kit including a swimming cap.

In school we use Bug Club and monitor reading on a daily basis. We change our reading books every Friday. We also monitor homework on a Thursday, so please ensure children bring these to school on that day. We love to see all the amazing work they do with you at home.

We are so excited for all of the learning opportunities we will get to share with the children this year and we try to make it as fun filled and creative as we possibly can.

Autumn- Anglo Saxons and Vikings

Spring- The Mayans

Summer- World explorers
